The Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition has run without interruption since 1769. It is, however, the first time I have attended the world famous show, I’ve seen it on the TV, should be interesting. . .
British painter David Remfry RA takes the reins, this year, as exhibition co-ordinator exploring the theme Only Connect, taken from the Howards End quote.
Having been under the weather for 5 weeks with frozen shoulder and nausea I put on my charity shop acquired new shoes and wobbled up to the Main Galleries at Burlington House on Piccadilly in the heart of London.
-
The Summer Exhibition is enormous / overwhelming consisting of 1,614 featured works.
-
Due to it nature there is no real narrative which make it slightly difficult to engage with.
-
Also due to it’s nature many of the works I found decorative and unchallenging.
Worth a look, yes, but it what it is. . . A Summer show with award-winning English sparkling wines. . .
I also took in Herzog & de Meuron, a look behind the scenes at their revered architecture practice.
